Royal Mile

At the foot of the castle is Edinburgh's most important street. It was built on the lava tongue of the volcano that comes from the castle itself. Its name (Royal Mile) is divided into two parts: firstly, because it was the street used by kings to cross the city; secondly, because it measures one Scottish mile, 1814 metres.

This street is lined with important monuments. Thus, at one end of the street is Edinburgh Castle. On the opposite side is the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Along it we can see Saint Giles Cathedral, the statues of David Hume and Adam Smith, or the Parliament, all of which are worth photographing.

If you are interested in taking home some souvenirs from the city, you can visit numerous shops here. Here you can buy anything from a postcard to a kilt, the classic Scottish kilt. If you want to stop off between visits, there are also interesting cafés and breweries.
