Gladstone’s Land

Gladstone’s Land

This historic building evokes 12 Grimmauld Place, the Black family home, and the symbolism of home within the Harry Potter universe.

Gladstone’s Land is one of the best-preserved residential buildings in Edinburgh's Old Town. Its narrow facade and history linked to ancient local families evoke 12 Grimmauld Place, the dark and enigmatic home of the Black family.

At this stop, we explore the symbolism of home and belonging within the Harry Potter universe, as well as the figure of Hedwig, who represents loyalty, refuge, and Harry's emotional bond with his true home. Gladstone’s Land bridges Edinburgh's historic architecture with the settings and emotions that Rowling brought to life throughout the saga.
