Kilt Rock

Kilt Rock

Dramatic basalt sea cliffs with waterfall, famed for their kilt-like rock formations.
Kilt Rock is a towering sea cliff on Skye’s Trotternish Peninsula, named for its resemblance to a pleated tartan kilt. Vertical basalt columns, banded with sandstone, plunge straight into the sea while the Mealt Falls cascade over the cliff edge. From the viewpoint, you can admire the striking geology, listen to seabirds and, on clear days, enjoy views across the Sound of Raasay. It’s one of Skye’s most photogenic coastal landmarks.
