3-day tour to the Isle of Skye and the Highlands departing from Edinburgh

Urquhart Castle
Este histórico lugar ofrece impresionantes vistas al lago y un fascinante pasado, atrayendo a numerosos excursionistas en busca de aventura y cultura.
With due respect to Nessie, Urquhart Castle is one of the major attractions of Loch Ness. It stands on the western shore and has stood guard over Loch Ness since the 13th century. However, the first historical record of occupation dates back to the 6th century.
The castle is believed to have been built by members of the Durward family in 1229. From that time onwards, the castle would be owned by a succession of owners as it would be besieged, captured, lost and recovered on countless occasions. It was destroyed in 1692 by English troops to prevent the Jacobites from taking it over.
Today it lies in ruins, forming an architectural complex which, thanks to its unique location (overlooking Loch Ness), is a very pleasant place to visit. In fact, once you're there, you'll notice the incessant bustle of visitors arriving by bus or cruise ship.
In 2001, Historic Scotland refurbished Urquhart Castle and provided an interpretation centre for all visitors.
