Castle Terrace
A key site for the defense of the castle and a venue for commemorations and historical events, where our immersion into the history of Edinburgh Castle begins.
The Edinburgh Castle Esplanade is the vast open space facing the fortress, originally designed as a defensive zone to halt enemy advances and secure the main entrance. Its strategic location afforded a clear view of the surrounding area, reinforcing the castle's military control.
Over time, the esplanade acquired significant symbolic and ceremonial importance, becoming the backdrop for commemorations, parades, and historical events. It is at this point that our castle tour begins, introducing visitors to the military, political, and symbolic significance of one of Scotland's most iconic landmarks.
