Culloden Battlefield

Culloden Battlefield

Atmospheric moor where the 1746 battle ended the Jacobite cause; powerful visitor centre and graves.
Culloden Battlefield, on Drumossie Moor near Inverness, is the haunting site of the last pitched battle on British soil, fought on 16 April 1746. In less than an hour, the Jacobite army of Bonnie Prince Charlie was decisively defeated by Government forces, ending hopes of restoring the Stuart monarchy and triggering harsh reprisals that dismantled the clan system. For Outlander fans, this is where Claire and Jamie’s story reaches one of its most emotional turning points. Today, an award-winning visitor centre, memorial cairn and clan grave markers invite quiet reflection. Walking the windswept field, with its information posts and preserved features, is a profoundly moving experience.
